The Electric Vehicle Council has been established to support the uptake of electric vehicles in Australia. Representing participants from across the scope of industries in electric vehicles, the Council advises, advocates for and co-ordinates activities by government and the private sector to facilitate the initial mass market.
Opportunities for Electric Vehicles in Australia
The Electric Vehicle Council has undertaken significant research and industry engagement to develop a strong understanding of the barriers preventing mass market uptake of electric vehicles in Australia. Opportunities for the advancement of electric vehicles in Australia fall into four categories.
Vehicles that are price competitive with existing alternatives, through an increase in market sales and incentives.
Clear regulatory framework
Vehicle emissions standards and regulations that encourage manufacturers to import electric vehicles to the Australian market – and encourage industry and consumer to purchase them.
A variety of models, suited to industry and consumer needs.
Raising awareness of the benefits and operating requirements of electric vehicles.
Electric Vehicle Council activities
In response, the Electric Vehicle Council, together with it’s members co-ordinates a range of activities to overcome these barriers, including:
Advocacy and research
Bringing together the voices of corporate, government, academic and community stakeholders to jointly advance Australia’s electric vehicle market, and the customer value proposition.
Advising and fostering relationships to aggregate demand and supply, and raise consumer awareness.
The Council supports efforts to research and develop our understanding of the Australian electric vehicle ‘eco-system’.
