The Electric Vehicle Council is proud to present the Charge@Large platform initiative, A visualisation tool for real-time availability of EV charge points across Australia, as well as for charge point uptime and utilisation data reporting to government departments.
The current situation in Australia is that Plugshare shows EV chargers from many Charge Point Operators (CPO) in a single platform but generally does not provide live status of EV chargers. Also, a CPO software platform may provide live status of EV chargers, but only for EV chargers on their network. This new EVC platform is intended to resolve this information gap, making it easier for drivers to identify ‘available for use’ EV chargers across all participating CPO networks. We’re aware that we’re not alone in tackling this challenge, and we’re not trying to block efforts by others. We encourage innovation in this space, in the interests of better experiences for drivers.
In terms of uptime reporting, the availability status information collected from the software platforms operated by CPOs managing EV charging sites will be logged and appear in the app as attractive elements for users. The logged status data will also enable reporting to government of uptime and utilisation. This feature provides reporting at the individual charge point connector level, which will be aggregated to the EV charger and site levels. While the live status data is intended to be public, the uptime and utilisation reporting is not. That information will be collated by the EVC and provided to government departments, in order to facilitate targeted and purposeful decision making based on accurate data on how charge points are being used.
