Electric vehicles are becoming a normal part of everyday life in Australia.
With EVs approaching 30% of new vehicle sales in recent months, more Australians than ever are considering the switch to electric transport. At the same time, many people are still learning how charging works, where to charge and what EV ownership looks like in practice.
To help support this transition, the Electric Vehicle Council has developed a series of short videos exploring how Australians charge their electric vehicles at home, while travelling and at destinations they already visit every day.
Originally screened as part of the Sydney Film Festival, the videos are now being made available to a broader audience through EVC’s Charging Confidence campaign.
Everyday Electric Video Campaign
Charging is not a separate activity. It happens while people live their lives. The Everyday Electric series highlights three common charging experiences and shows how charging can fit naturally into everyday routines.
Video 1 – Home Base: For most EV owners, charging starts at home. Our latest EV Ownership Survey found that 93% of EV owners can charge at home. For many drivers, overnight charging becomes one of the most convenient parts of EV ownership.
Video 2 – Top Up & Go: Charging doesn’t have to interrupt the journey. Whether you’re shopping, having lunch, visiting a local attraction or attending an event, charging can often happen while you’re already doing something else. Our latest EV Ownership Survey found that 97% of metropolitan EV owners live within 16 kilometres of a public charger.
Video 3 – Road Ready: One of the most common questions about EVs is whether they’re suitable for longer trips. For many drivers, the answer comes through experience. Our EV Ownership Survey found that concerns about charging and range reduce significantly once people begin driving electric.
Coming Soon: Charge with Confidence
Later this year, we’ll launch the next phase of the campaign. Charge with Confidence will build on the Everyday Electric series with practical guidance, tips and resources to help Australians get the most from EV charging. We’ll cover several topics including home charging, apartment and strata charging, destination charging, public charging, road trip planning, and charging confidence and positive charging behaviours.
The campaign is being developed in consultation with government and industry stakeholders to ensure resources are practical, accessible and relevant to Australian drivers. Together, these resources aim to make charging simpler, more familiar and more accessible for the growing number of Australians choosing to drive electric.
