EVC Welcomes ARENA Funding Boost For Vehicle-To-Grid Expansion with BYD, Starcharge and Amber Electric

29/05/2026

The Federal Government today announced $13.6 million in ARENA funding to expand Amber Electric’s vehicle-to-grid trial to 1,000 Australian households — the largest residential V2G rollout in the country.

The funding will expand Amber’s V2G pilot and smart charging program and prove the technology at scale.

V2G allows EV owners to feed stored energy back to their home or the grid during peak periods — cutting bills and earning money in the process. One Amber customer saved  $500 in a single afternoon.

“One EV stores five and a half times more energy than a typical home battery. This expanded trial moves vehicle-to-grid from theory to action — the largest residential rollout in the country, proving on real driveways what’s been possible on paper for years,” said EVC CEO Julie Delvecchio.

“The best part? It’s not just the people plugged in who benefit — it’s the whole system. When thousands of EVs feed power back at peak times, it puts downward pressure on costs for everyone, whether you’re in the trial or not.”

“Switching to an EV already saves you around $3,000 a year — but with vehicle-to-grid, your car can actually earn you money too. When every dollar counts, that’s huge.”

“When you think about how much we rely on imported fuel, the idea that your car could power your home and help other energy users has never been more important.”

The EVC looks forward to working with government and industry to ensure the policy settings, standards and infrastructure are in place to bring V2G to every Australian who wants it.
